Job Title: Student Teacher - Elementary, Middle, High School

Primary Purpose: 
Observe and provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth, as supervised by the cooperating teacher. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society under the guidance of campus administration and cooperating teacher. 
 
Qualifications: 

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Observe and participate in the development and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  2. In collaboration with the cooperating teacher prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  3. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned and in collaboration of cooperating teacher
  4. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  5. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  6. Cooperate with other members of staff for planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  7. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  8. Assist students in analyzing and improving study methods and habits.
  9. Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal testing and use results to plan instructional activities.
  10. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  11. Present positive role model for students, support mission of school district.
  12. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  13. Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations and IEPs.
  14. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  15. Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  16. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers at the direction of the cooperating teacher.
  17. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  18. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  19. Participate in the district staff development program, as approved by campus administration and university supervisors.
  20. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  21. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  22. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  23. Articulate the district’s mission and goals in areas of assigned responsibilities to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  24. Demonstrate awareness of district/community needs and initiate activities to meet identified needs.
  25. Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.
  26. Support classroom lessons through tutorials and study materials. 

 

Equipment Used:
Computer, FAX, copier, document camera, VCR, laser disc player, tape recorder, projector, and other
specialized equipment that is particularly unique to the teaching assignment
    
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise assigned teacher aide(s) and student teacher(s).
 
Working Conditions:
Physical demands/environment factors: May require standing for long periods of time Repetitive hand motions and prolonged use of computer. The position requires frequent bending, stooping, twisting, pulling, overhead reaching, sitting, and keyboarding. Position requires the ability to lift 25 pounds to waist high. Must have the ability to move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.

Mental Demands: 
Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to instruct; maintain emotional control under stress.
